Frees Fear in Cuckoos Nest and The Scarle Essay Example For Students

Liberates Fear in Cuckoos Nest and The Scarle Essay t Letter correlation look at differentiate articles One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and The Scarlet Letter To Live With Fear To live with dread and not be overwhelmed by it is the last trial of development. This test has been taken by different artistic characters. Boss Bromden in Ken Keseys One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale in Hawthornes The Scarlet Letter both seem to have taken and finished this assessment. It initially appeared just as the Chief would bomb this trial of development in the psychological ward that he was focused on. He had bolted himself up by acting almost totally senseless. He had enormous dread of the Combine, or society, that demolished things and individuals and treated them like machines, providing orders and controlling them. Before sufficiently long to spare the Chief, McMurphy showed up. He was energetic, and not terrified; the direct inverse of the Chief. This fearlessness in the long run gave to the Chief. At a gathering, when McMurphy was holding a vote to demonstrate that the patients needed to see the World Series, the Chief decided in favor of it. From the outset he said that McMurphy controlled his hand. Later on he conceded that it was he who raised it. He even conversed with McMurphy one night, and started snickering at the current circumstance. One day when McMurphy and the Chief attempted to help another patient who was being exploited by orderlies, they were gotten and condemned to electro-stun treatment (EST). The Chi typically passed out in a haze when stood up to with issues; be that as it may, this time (he had suffered more than 200 EST meetings already) he didn't. In any case, McMurphy was falling apart, and the two appeared to turn around positions. McMurphy in the long run was condemned to a lobotomy, which left him as a powerless, woeful individual, as the Chief had once been. The Chief presently had the mental fortitude to put McMurphy out of his wretchedness, in spite of what the head nurture, Nurse Ratched, the image of the join to the Chief, would do to him. He covered McMurphy, and thereafter, got away by lifting the control board, which McMurphy disclosed to him that he could lift however the Chief considered himself to be little, an image of his quality against the join, and breaking a window with it. The negligible actuality that the Chief could lift the board was evidence that he had increased, even than McMurphy, who couldn't lift it. By facing his dread and managing it, the Chief finished his assessment of development. Reverend Dimmesdale additionally lived in dread. Dread that one day he would be discovered as the dad of the offspring of Hester Prynne, and a philanderer. In the event that he was discovered, he was unable to fill his need on this planet: Relaying Gods word to the individuals. He expected that whenever discovered, he would be mortified as was Hester. Additionally, he expected that Chillingworth, Hesters spouse, would deliver retribution upon him for undermining her. Dimmesdale in the end confronted his feelings of dread, and before the townspeople, he, Hester, and Pearl, their little girl, got up on the platform that was utilized to rebuff Hester, and admitted to his violations. He finished his assessment of development since he faced the dread, and was not overwhelmed by it, (in spite of the fact that it nearly overcomed him: His wellbeing was bombing quickly because of his feeling of remorse). He realized that he would be mortified, and that he was to leave town with Hester that very day, yet he admitted at any rate. His admission shows his development and demonstrates that he breezed through the assessment. A trial of development is whether one is overwhelmed by the dread they live with. .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .postImageUrl , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .focused content region { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:hover , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:visited , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:active { border:0!important; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; mistiness: 1; change: obscurity 250ms; webkit-change: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:active , .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:hover { darkness: 1; progress: haziness 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .focused content territory { width: 100%; position: rel ative; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content enhancement: underline; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; outskirt range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-stature: 26px; moz-fringe sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content adornment: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .uef88034 ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9 .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .uef88034ab55eb0f9224d1e5ecc0f76d9:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Earth Art - Creating Art from Nature Essay The Chief and Dimmesdale are two artistic characters who lived in dread and conquered it. Trumpeting for Assassins

Trumpeting for Assassins In fifth grade, everyone at my school had to pick an instrument to play in either band or orchestra. We had tryouts: we took a shot at playing every instrument in turn, and the teachers would rate us from 1 to 10 (not a clue what they were rating, exactlyhow awesome we looked holding that particular instrument?) After the orchestra teacher suggested that you better be in the band, dear, and I found that I really dont like feeling a vibrating reed on my tongue, I shuffled into the band room and picked up a trumpet. And got a 10. I assume it was for managing to make a sound, since I definitely dont look awesome when I play the trumpet (take a look in the mirror while blowing up a balloon, and youll see what I mean). Nine years later (NINE YEARS? IM SO OLD) I signed up to play in the pit orchestra for Assassins, a show performed by  MITs Musical Theater Guild. The music and lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim, who also wrote the lyrics for West Side Story.  Its been a year since I last played the trumpet (I brought it to campus with me, but barely touched it freshman year) and Ive been experiencing a nice, emotional, occasionally painful (my lips hurt!) reconnection with my lovely set of brass tubes. Ive also had to play a flugelhorn for the first time. In case youre unfamiliar with the difference between a flugelhorn and a trumpet, heres a picture of a trumpet: Theyre about the same length, but a flugelhorn is fatter. Its like what would happen to a trumpet, if a trumpet ate every day like I ate last night (I had the most ridiculously gigantic plate of fish + sweet potato fries + calamari EVER) . Brass instruments are fun. I once got a call from our apartments porter in London; he said that a neighbor had been phoning in to complain about my trumpet-playing. Whoops. Fortunately, no one has complained about my playing here (yet). Most dorms have a music room (as far as Im aware), which is a little room equipped with a piano and music stands, so I troop downstairs once a day to practice, trumpet in one hand and flugelhorn in the other and a backpack full of mutes. Trumpet mutes are some of the funkiest-looking objects ever created. Here are two examples: The first is a straight mute, and the second is a cup mute. The brown cork-y part goes into the bell of the trumpet, and mutes the sound in different ways. I was familiar with these two before Assassins, but had never come across one of these before: This is a harmon mute, so-named because it puts you in harmony with your neighbors, who can no longer hear your squawking tones*. The little thing sticking out of the bottom (opposite the cork part) is a stem. It can be pulled all the way out of the mute body, and music will specify whether you should take the stem out, push it all the way in, or pull it most of the way out. *I made that up. I puchased the mutes, and borrowed the flugelhorn (from fellow MTG trumpeter Matt P.) the day of our first rehearsal with the cast (the singers) so I didnt get a chance to practice before then. Disaster. My first act was to place the flugelhorn on a stand that Matt lent me, which looked something like this: So far so good. When it was time to switch instruments, I dropped the trumpet on my lap, swung the flugelhorn to my lips, blew and no sound came out. I was silent for the rest of the piece. Finally, I tapped Matt on the shoulder. Me: MATT! THE FLUGELHORN WONT MAKE ANY NOISE! Matt stared at me. He stared at the flugelhorn. He reached his hand into the flugelhorns bell and pulled out the stand. He then set up the stand properly, which made it look something more like this: Umright. I knew that. Thanks Matt. It was still a bit of a challenge to get any noise out of the instrument, since the amount of air required for a note is different than on a trumpet. Pulling the giant black wedge out of the bell was a good start, though. The next disastrous incident came during a particularly fast piece, in which I have to switch between mutes (STRAIGHT, CUP, NO MUTE, CUP, HARMON WITH NO STEM, HARMON WITH STEM, STRAIGHT, NO MUTE) at speeds rivalling those of Hurricane Irene. Like Hurricane Irene, I left chaos in my wake. At one point, I flung a straight mute through the air and nearly hit the guy two seats down. It rolled out a big arc on the floor, and all eyes followed. My trumpet fell over a couple of times. In my frenzy, I smacked the mouthpiece into my upper teeth and threw a pencil onto the floor. I had been nervous before about playing in front of strangers, and all this flustering didnt help my situation. Fortunately, my fellow players were patient, and encouraging; Matt kept pressing me to play out, and play with confidence and finally, three or four songs in, I did. Dont judge MITs performing arts scene on my klutziness! Youll be surprised (and, if youre like me, a little overwhelmed) to learn that that we have, here on campus, over a dozen dance groups, a couple of literary societies, and a zillion musical and theater ensembles. The MTG singers are fantastic. The rest of the pit orchestra is fantastic. The show will be fantastic. Performances begin on September 2nd and run for a couple of weekends, so you should check out the schedule and come see MITs performing arts in action! Freshmen, as a helpful commenter pointed out, tickets are only $3 for you, so take advantage of your discount :) I promise that my mute-flinging days are over, so dont worry: your face has nothing to fear.

Definition of Social Distance in Psychology

Social distance is a measure of social separation between groups caused by perceived or real differences between groups of people as defined by well-known social categories. It manifests across a variety of social categories, including class, race and ethnicity, culture, nationality, religion, gender and sexuality, and age, among others. Sociologists recognize three key types of social distance: affective, normative, and interactive. They study it through a variety of research methods, including  ethnography and participant observation, surveys, interviews, and daily route mapping, among other techniques. Affective Social Distance Affective social distance is probably the most widely known type  and the one  that is the cause of great concern among sociologists. Affective social distance was defined by Emory Bogardus, who created the Bogardus Social Distance Scale for measuring it. Affective social distance refers to the degree to which a person from one group feels sympathy or empathy for persons from other groups. The scale of measurement created by Bogardus measures this by establishing the willingness of a person to interact with people from other groups.  For example, an unwillingness to live next door to a family of a different race would indicate a high degree of social distance. On the other hand, willingness to marry a person of a different race would indicate a very low degree of social distance. Affective social distance is a cause of concern among sociologists because it is known to foster prejudice, bias, hatred, and even violence. Affective social distance between Nazi sympathizers and European Jews was a significant component of the ideology that supported the Holocaust. Today, affective social distance fuels politically motivated hate crimes and school bullying among some supporters of President Donald Trump  and seem to have created the conditions for his election to the presidency, given that support for Trump was concentrated among white people. Normative Social Distance Normative social distance is the kind of difference we perceive between ourselves as members of groups and others who are not members of the same groups. It is the distinction we make between us and them, or  between insider and outsider. Normative social distance is not necessary judgmental in nature. Rather, it can simply signal that a person recognizes differences between herself and others whose race, class, gender, sexuality, or nationality may differ from her own. Sociologists consider this form of social distance to be important  because it is necessary to first recognize a difference in order to then see and understand how difference shapes the experiences and life trajectories of those who differ from ourselves. Sociologists believe that recognition of difference in this way should inform social policy so that it is crafted to serve all citizens  and not just those who are in the majority. Interactive Social Distance Interactive social distance is a way of describing the extent to which different groups of people interact with each other, in terms of both frequency and intensity of interaction. By this measure, the more different groups interact, the closer they are socially. They less they interact, the greater the interactive social distance is between them. Sociologists who operate using social network theory pay attention to interactive social distance and measure it as the strength of social ties. Sociologists recognize that these three types of social distance are not mutually exclusive and do not necessarily overlap. Groups of people may be close in one sense, say, in terms of interactive social distance, but far from another, like in affective social distance. Updated by Nicki Lisa Cole, Ph.D.

Common Accidents Among Children Free Essays

Common Accidents Among Children A person would think the safest place on earth is a family’s home. Most accidents occur in and around the home. Most of the accidents that occur could have been prevented if a few precautions have been taken. We will write a custom essay sample on Common Accidents Among Children or any similar topic only for you Order Now Safety measures are often overlooked when a people are in a rush however protecting loved-ones from a senseless tragedy is worth the time. Most accidents that occur with infants are the use of mobile walkers. In 1997, mobile walkers need to be made wider than 36 inches, the size of a standard door. Accidents occur when a child in a walker falls down the stairs. The accidents can happen either inside a house, outside on the ground, or when on a deck or raised surface. Although it is the law that children are to ride in car seats when under the age of six or 60 pounds not everyone follows the law. Children are injured in motor vehicle accidents when the children are not placed in the car seats, the car seats are installed improperly, or the child is not wearing a seat belt. Many times when children are injured from not being in a car seat in an accident, there is an empty car seat in the back seat of the car. Burns are very common accidents with children. Parents should make sure their thermostat on the water heater is set below 120 degrees. Burns occur from scalding hot water in the bath tub. Many children suffer burns when adult’s accidentally spills hot liquids such as coffee or tea on a child. Children can also receive burns when they grab the handles of pots cooking on the stove. Parents should always make sure they all pot handles are turned toward the back of the stove so small children cannot pull them down on top of them. Another common way children receive burns are when the children pull the cords of curling irons or irons. Children riding on bikes with their parents are often injured. Children’s feet are caught in the spokes of the bicycle. Parents should always ride in seat. Parents and children should always make sure to wear their helmets. Poisoning is another accident that can be preventable. Cleaning products, paint thinners, pesticides, and medicines need to be locked up and out of the reach of children. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco should also be kept out of reach of children, if ingested it can be harmful to children. Children can also ingest plants that are poisonous. It is a good idea for parents to keep the phone number to poison control by the telephone in case of accidental ingestion. It is also a good idea to keep a bottle of Ipecac syrup in a medicine cabinet at all times. Parents should never induce vomiting unless instructed to do so by poison control. One of the most common causes of injury or death to young children is drowning. More males are injured than females, 3:1. A common misconception is that it takes a great deal of water for a child to drown. However, a child can drown in a few inches of water. Parents should Eradicate any standing water around the home. It sounds a little silly but even installing locks on the toilet bowl lids could prevent drowning. Children drown when left unattended in the bathtub. Parents should never leave their child unattended for any length of time when filling a bathtub full of water (Neifert, M. ,2003). Swimming pools should have gates with locks and have removable ladders. Children should never be allowed to swim by themselves. To maximize the security of children around the swimming pool, some parents have installed a water alarm. The alarm will sound when something enters the water. Electrocution is another common accident. Parents should put safety plugs in all outlets. This helps so that children cannot stick their fingers or metal objects into the outlets. Electrical cords should be hidden or out of the reach of the children. Children can pull at them or chew on them. Radios, curling irons and hair dryers should always be unplugged and kept away from the bathtub. Choking is another injury which occurs to children. Children especially those who have not started to walk yet pick up small objects off the floor and put them in their mouths. Toys that have small removable parts should not be given to children. Another toy children love that should be avoided is balloons. When balloons pop, the child can put a piece into his or her mouth. Once the balloon is swallowed it is very difficult to eject the balloon out of the child’s throat. Parents should always supervise their children when they are eating. Parents should avoid giving children hard candy, grapes, hot dogs, and peanuts. Children have also been known to choke accidentally themselves on the cord to the mini-blinds. Parents should not let their children play with long strings, ribbons, or ropes. Plastic bags should be thrown away or kept out of the reach of children to prevent suffocation. Keeping children safe is a difficult job. Parents and caregivers can make it easier by taking a few helpful precautions. If a house has a flight of stairs, parents need to put safety gates at the top and bottom to help prevent children from falling (LeBlanc, 2007). Keep the stairs free from toys or clutter to prevent falls. Loose carpeting should be tacked down and area rugs should have non-slip mats on the underside. The best way to prevent tragic accidents is to be aware about home safety. Supervision is the key with children. Children are quick and accidents can occur in a few seconds. References LeBlanc, J. Oedipus Rex Essays (1338 words) - Greek Mythology, Vocal Music

Oedipus Rex At the start of the play, the city of Thebes is wasting away under a plague that leaves its fields and women barren. Oedipus, king of Thebes, has sent his brother-in-law, Creon, to ask the house of Apollo to ask the oracle how to put an end to the plague. Creon returns, bearing good news: once the killer of the previous king, Laius, is found, Thebes will be cured of the plague (Laius was Jocasta's husband before she married Oedipus). Hearing this, Oedipus swears he will find the murderer and banish him. He asks Creon some questions: where was Laius murdered? did anyone see the crime? how many men killed him? Creon answers: Laius was killed outside the city by a group of robbers, and the only witness was a shepherd who still lives nearby. Hearing this, Oedipus asks the people of Thebes if any of them know any information about the king's death. The Chorus (representing the people of Thebes) suggests that Oedipus consult Teiresias, the blind prophet. Oedipus tells them that he has alre ady sent for Teiresias. When Teiresias arrives, he seems reluctant to answer Oedipus's questions, warning him that he does not want to know the answers. Oedipus threatens him with death, and finally Teiresias tells him that Oedipus himself is the killer, and that his marriage is a sinful union. Oedipus takes this as an insult and jumps to the conclusion that Creon paid Teiresias to say these things. He also mocks Teiresias, telling him that he is no prophet; a prophet should have been able to answer the Sphinx's riddle, but Oedipus himself was the only one who could. Teiresias counters that although he has no sight, Oedipus is the one who is blind to the truth. He asks him whose son he is and reminds him of the curse on his parents' heads. He tells him that he will leave Thebes in shame. Furious, Oedipus dismisses him, and Teiresias goes, repeating, as he does, that Laius's killer is right here before him ? a man who is his father's killer and his mother's husband, a man who came seeing but will leave in bl indness. Creon enters, asking the people around him if it is true that Oedipus slanderously accused him. The Chorus tries to mediate, but Oedipus appears and charges Creon with treason. The men fight until Jocasta, Oedipus's wife, arrives. They explain the nature of their argument to Jocasta, who begs Oedipus to believe Creon. The Chorus also begs Oedipus to be open-minded, and Oedipus unwillingly relents and allows Creon to go. Jocasta asks Oedipus why he is so upset and he tells her what Teiresias prophesied. Jocasta comforts him by telling him that there is no truth in oracles or prophets, and she has proof. Long ago an oracle told Laius that his own son would kill him, and as a result he and Jocasta gave their infant son to a shepherd to leave out on a hillside to die with a pin through its ankles. Yet Laius was killed by robbers, not by his own son, proof that the oracle was wrong. But something about her story troubles Oedipus; she said that Laius was killed at a place where three roads meet, and this reminds Oedipus of an incident from his past, when he killed a stranger at a place where three roads met. He asks her to describe Laius, and her description matches his memory. Yet Jocasta tells him that the only eyewitness to Laius's death swore that five robbers killed him. Oedipus summons this witness. While they wait for the man to arrive, Jocasta asks Oedipus why he seems so troubled. Oedipus tells her the story of his past. Once when he was young, a man he met told him that he was not his father's son. He asked his parents about it, and they denied it. Still it troubled him, and he eventually went to an oracle to ask. The oracle told him that he would kill his father and marry his mother. This so frightened Oedipus that he left his hometown and never returned. On his journeys, he came across a haughty man at a crossroads and

I. How are the architectural structures of the Stupas and the paintings of Mandalas related to each other? Mandalas create circular symbolic designs, similar to that of Buddha’s crown, which is the top spire, forming a circle on the Stupa. The hemispherical mound forms a drum shaped base. In addition to this, the head of Buddha forms a square as well as the base of the Stupa. Within the circle of the Mandala, a square is formed that has four T-shaped gate-like entrances leading to the center of the Mandala. This is similar to the four legs of Buddha that form steps of the lower terrace which represent four separate T-shape gate entrances. Each is a circle inscribed in a square. Both the Stupa and Mandala have a Buddha at the center of these creations. Both centers represent the essence, the heart of Buddha. III. Discuss the Paleolithic period to the Neolithic period. Administrative Assistant

Ace the Interview Secretary/Administrative Assistant If youre new to the professional arena, chances are you may be new to interviewing as well. These tips from Best-Job-Interview.com can help you practice your answers and prepare to face your interview with poise, wit, and composure.First off,   review your resume and cover letter and have anecdotes from your work background- even if youre making a career change or only have informal internship experience- ready to go when prompted. Be able to talk specifically about what you did in your last position and how that prepares you to meet the challenges of this prospective job. Here are some common questions you might face on interview day. What made you apply for this job?The answer to this one should not be Because I need money, even if thats the honest truth! Identify some aspects of the jobs responsibilities or the company itself that make you most excited to join their team. Do you see it as part of your long-term goals? Do you pride yourself on providing excellent customer service? Have you always wanted to work for a major media outlet? What motivates you?Again, the right answer here is not $$$$! Be wary of potentially prejudicial responses- employers are legally not allowed to ask about age, marital status, or whether youre a parent, but many people reveal this information too casually in questions like these. Its sexist and nonsensical, sure, but to be on the safe side, come up with an answer about your drive, or your enthusiasm for the industry, or a mentor/role model who inspires you. What qualities do you consider most important in a secretary or administrative professional?Refer directly to your resume if you need examples for this one! You can also memorize some of the requirements from the job posting and rattle those off to show you understand the company culture and are ready to rise to their expectations. What are some of your strengths and weaknesses? This is a time for medium honesty. Be confident about your strengths, for sure- particularly if you k now you have references who will agree that youre a dynamic go-getter with poise and a professional attitude. Then,  perform that age-old weaknesses spin where you highlight your perfectionism or the fact that youre so eager to do well that sometimes you need help with prioritizing tasks. What did you enjoy the most, and the least, about your last job?Your answer to this question should reveal something about your attitude towards work in general, but shouldnt devolve into complaints about your last job. After all, if youll complain  about your previous employer, theres nothing to suggest you wont complain  equally freely about your next one.The absence of challenges, support, or adequate benefits is a pretty safe one, or if there were no long-term opportunities for you there. An employer wants to hear that you have real-world experience, that youre an effective employee, and that you can think creatively  about different job contexts. For example, my first job out of college, my main work experience was as a Teaching Assistant and as an employee of Build-a-Bear Workshop. I was able to demonstrate that hosting a birthday party for ten sugared-up 9-year-olds was pretty similar to shepherding a dynamic list of titles to publication, to the amusement of the editors who were interviewing me. Hey, I got the job!

Persuasive synthesis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Persuasive synthesis - Essay Example As a means of expounding upon this particular topic, it is the hope of this author that the needs of the healthcare professional within such a context will be further appreciated; thereby ultimately helping draw a tangential level of understanding with regards to the use and application of euthanasia and/or physician assisted suicide. When one considers the difficulties of working as a healthcare professional, a litany of problematic issues comes to mind. However, a primal concern that the healthcare professional must deal with on a daily basis is the question of burnout. Burnout is of special importance due to the fact that it intimately affects the ability of the given individual to continue to provide a high level and quality o care to the end recipient. ... 339). This is of course a function of the fact that the average healthcare professional will only come in contact with a dead or dying patient on a rare incidence. Conversely, the healthcare professional that deals exclusively with the terminally ill must experience this on a daily and sometimes hourly basis. To seek to understand the means by which these impacts won the outlook and mental well-being of the healthcare professional is something of an impossible task due to the fact that different people respond to pressures in different ways. One of the readings that was engaged with as a means of informing this particular essay was that of Paul T. Schotsmans â€Å"Ethical Claim of a Dying Brother†. As such Schotsman integrates with the reader the severe physical and mental toll that standing helplessly beside the bed of a human writhing in agony exacts on the healthcare professional; regardless of the overall strength of their character, years in the profession, or resiliency of faith. Ultimately what happens is that the healthcare professional is unable to continue to integrate such continual death and suffering into their model of patient interaction. This no doubt comes from the fact that although death and dying are a fundamental part of life on planet earth, it is somehow programmed to be resented and rejected by humanity. This interestingly strikes at the very core of what healthcare provision is intended to provide. As anyone familiar with the Hippocratic Oath can attest, the ultimate goal of the healthcare professional is to seek to alleviate the suffering of the ill. As a function of this, the reader/researcher can quickly see that try as they might, the job of the healthcare

Discussion Question 2 Week 8 Capital Structure Decisions Assignment

Discussion Question 2 Week 8 Capital Structure Decisions - Assignment Example This is where companies with higher amount of debt are riskier. Decisions on the capital structure of a company will be influenced by the business risk of the company, the management style, the market conditions and the growth rate (Bierman, 2003). Therefore, any approach taken when making this decision should consider these factors. There are a number of theories to capital structure, which include: the net income theory of capital structure. This theory encourages companies to decrease their cost of capital and increase their market value. This is by increasing debt and decreasing equity, also known as having a financial leverage. The second theory of capital structure is the net operating theory of capital structure. This method does not agree with increasing the financial leverage as in the net income theory. This means that change in capital structure has no effect on the company’s market value. There is also the Modigliani and miller method which states that no relations hip exists between the capital structure of the company and its cost of capital (Shim, 2008). This theory indicates that the cost of capital plus the value of any company depend on the expectations of investors. Finally, there is the traditional theory of capital structure which combines net operating income approach and the net income approach. It involves increasing the debt which raises the market value of the company until an optimal level. Looking at the theories, it is clear that the traditional theory of capital structure is the most applicable across the widest number of scenarios. This is because this method looks at the best mix of debt and equity while ensuring that the company does not go beyond the optimal level. This optimal level ensures that the market value of the company does not decrease and thus the stock prices remain optimal. Since this method optimizes the stock prices, the weighted-average cost of capital will

Besides that, Coca-Cola Company also ability to penetrate developing and emerging markets to maintain their sales, such as North Asia, Eurasia and Middle Asia in 2005 Cokes sales increases around 11 percent, which also depends on economic and political conditions (Anonymous, n.d.). 2.3 Economic Analysis for Coca-Cola Enterprise Economic analysis included interest rates, taxation changes, economic growth, inflation and exchange rate (Oxford, 2007). In 2010 year, American has largest and most technological powerful economy in the world, with a per capital GDP of $46,900 (Geographical, 2010). However things changed. Contraction or negative GDP growth were defined by economist about that loosely recession. (Rex, 2001). When interest rates are lower, when economic stability Coca- Cola can loan money from bank to do investment in other product, technology or property. So that, when researching for new product would cost less the Coca-Cola Company will sell its products for less, people will spend to coca-cola will be more cause they would get cheap products from Coca-Cola. 2.4 Social Analysis for Coca-Cola Enterprise It includes the demographic and cultural aspects of the external marco environment. It will continue to influence the non-alcoholic beverage industry by increasing the demand overall and in the healthier beverages. 2.5 Technological Analysis for Coca-Cola Enterprise Technology factors can reduce costs, improve quality with reduce minimum efficient production level and lead innovation to influence outsourcing decisions (Oxford, 2007). For Coca-Cola companies to effective the advertising, marketing and promotional programs. They make some products look attractive, such as cans and plastic bottles have increased sales for Coca-Cola as these are easier to carry and you can bin them once they are used. This helps in selling of the products. The international consideration At the company Coca-cola Company, all people are their competitive advantages to differentiate them in the marketplace (Caree, n.d.). They represent and help Coca-Cola Company build the worlds greatest brands and became well-known brands in the international market and business (Caree, n.d.). Recently, Coca-Cola Company has involves many activities in the international business. As we know that in November 16, 2010, Coca-cola India launches Nestea. Coca-Cola India proclaimed the brand of Nestea is the globally successful ready-to-drink iced tea in the country. Simply to define Nestea, Nestea is a brand of ice tea manufactured by Nestle and distributed by Nestle companys beverage department in the United States (Mahalo, 2010). Incidentally, Nestea is a brand licensed from Beverage Partners Worldwide (BPW) (Shilpa, 2010). The 50:50 joint ventures leverages the products manufactured by Nestle and the marketing initiatives of Coca-cola (Shilpa, 2010). In India, Nestea will be bottled in a plant in Andhra Pradesh (Shilpa, 2010). When Coca-Cola India joint ventures with Nestle, they consider quality of the product and also their future. According to Mr. Ricardo Fort, Vice President Marketing, Coca-Cola India, as a beverage company, our aim to be able to offer a beverage for every lifestyle and occasion, which also aids long term, sustainable business growth (IIFL, 2010). They are constantly to working on high-quality to their portfolio (IILF, 2010). In the journey of the joint ventures and expansion the brand of Nestea across the globe will face some problem in international business. One of the problems is relating to brand name. Brand plays an important role in the international business and also market. Cause a brand is the identity of a specific product, service or business. Concept of the brand is the personality that identifies a product, service or company and how to key constituencies. The Coca-cola logo is an example of widely-recognized trademark representing a global brand. When Coca-Cola Company acquired Nestle in India, the brand was well-known in the country. But the problem with the brand name acquisition is the likely fall in goodwill even, through there is local goodwill where the brand is used (Aswathappa, 2008). So the firm should consider the image they wish to create for their products to local or foreign (Aswathappa, 2008). Countries with higher levels of economic development tend to have a higher quality i mage for their Nestea then do less developed countries (Aswathappa, 2008). But image can change. In addition, there are always legal or cultural factors that force to alter the brand names under which it sells its product. Simply to define it, different places have different cultures. Firstly need to understand about cultural of other countries. Such as cultural is China is guan xi. So Indian cultural is defined by relatively strict social hierarchy. That they need to do the packaging, image and so on to attractive them with right cultural cause to make sure that Nestea is suitable for them and the global consumers. The growth of business Coca-Cola Company is a well-known company and also famous brand in the global. But they still require to establish to growth strategies based on their current performance in the industry and also and they want to development their soft drinks will be located in everywhere in the each country become more successful. As we know that the Coca-Cola Company is the worlds leading seller of soft drink, the best seller especially is coca-cola. It sells a range of product to meet a broad range of consumer needs. Once the company identifies there is need, Coca-Cola has to decide how it is going to meet this demand. Coca-Cola Company requires using that Adsoffs Product -Market Matrix. Firstly, we need to understand about Adsoff Matrix Product. The Adsoff Product/Market Matrix is a tool that helps businesses decides their product and market growth strategy and also to attempts to grow depend on whether it markets new or existing products in new or existing markets (Rabidbi, 2008). There are four main categories for selection; there are market penetration, market development, product development and business diversification (Rabidbi, 2008). Below table is after do analysis on the Coca-Cola Company: Existing product New product Existing market Market penetration Diet coke Product development Coca-cola Vanila Fanta Icy Lemon New market Market development Coca-cola share size 1.25 litre Bottle Diversification Winnie the Pooh Roo Juice Powerade Market penetration Market penetration is a business focuses on selling existing products into existing markets. This means increasing their income by, such as promoting the product (Marketing Teacher, 2010). However, the product is still same, do not have any change of the product, and they do not find any new customers and buyers (Marketing Teacher, 2010). This is the objective of higher market share in existing markets and also to secure dominance of growth markets. In Coca-Cola Company, situation of Diet Coke is under market penetration. Since being introduced in 1982 as a result of growing trend towards dieting and healthier living, Diet Coke has been a highly successful product for the Coca-Cola Company, selling millions of unit per year (Anonymous, n.d.). Throughout this time, Coca-Cola has constantly adapted aspects of the marketing mix for Diet Coke in order to continually match customer trends and fashions. Market Development Market development is a business seeks to sell its existing products into new markets. This means that the product not change, but it is marketed to a new places (Marketing Teacher, 2010). The market development is exporting the product to a new region, (Marketing Teacher, 2010). Two types soft drinks of Coca-Cola is under market development, there are Coca Cola Vanilla and Fanta Icy Lemon. Coca Cola Vanilla had successful launch in American, especially in Great Britain, this is because it is new Vanilla flavored version of the Coca-Cola Company (Anonymous, n.d.). Prior to doing so, Coca Cola carried out taste tests and developed the graphical look of the Diet Coke Brand. When they did this, they took great care to incorporate aspects of the Coca Cola brand, but still differentiating it so consumers would see it as an alternative to Coke. While Fanta Icy Lemon is a new flavor sparkling drink by Coca-Cola was a direct result of listening to consumers who called the companys Careline telephone service (Anonymous, n.d.). This business conducted taste tests prior to launch 2001 launch (Anonymous, n.d.). Product Development Product development is a new product into existing markets. This strategy may require the development of new competencies and requires the business to develop modified product which can appeal to existing market (Marketing Teacher, 2010). Coca Cola Share Size 1.5l Bottle is new product for the Coca-Cola Company. Desk research showed Coca Cola that a growing number of households contained 1-2 people, which led them to believe that a smaller version of the 2 litre family sized bottle would sell well to these groups (Anonymous, n.d.). In launching this product including simply sell existing brands such as Coca Cola, Diet Coke and others, Coke did need to alter the product itself, merely different aspects of the marketing mix (Anonymous, n.d.). Besides that, Coca-Cola has been developed to have vanilla, lime, cherry and diet varieties in the soft drinks market. Diversification Diversification is a new product in new markets. Related and unrelated diversification is two types of diversification (Marketing Teacher, 2010). Related diversification means that they remain in a market or industry with we are familiar, while unrelated diversification is where they have no previous industry nor market experience (Marketing Teacher, 2010). Winnie the Pooh Roo Juice and Powerade are new product into new market. Winnie the Pooh Roo Juice is target parents of children aged 2-5 years with a juice drink that was packaged in a fun and colorful manner (Anonymous, n.d.). They chose the characters from Winnie the Pooh for their universal appeal to children and made the product appeal to both children and their parents (Anonymous, n.d.). Brand of Powerade, Coca-Coal developed the energy drink Powerade in response to growth in the sport drink market (Anonymous, n.d.). Much research was carried out into potential competitors within this segment prior o the drink development and launch (Anonymous, n.d.). New venture As we know that Porters Five Forces tool is a simple but powerful tool for understanding about the power lies in a business situation and also to undertake a structural analysis of the soft drink industry coca-cola to gauge the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition and also determine the competitive structure of a given market. In currently, Coca-Cola Company has a discussion with potential development partners to assist in pursuing some of these opportunities to further strengthen the model to another country. The companys goal is to double the program and became more famous in globalization. Brunei is a country best choice for Coca-Cola Company. This is because just a few soft drink industries located in Brunei. So, this is a good investment for Coca-Cola Company. Just simple research about Brunei, Brunei has a small rich economy that includes a mixture between foreign with foreign entrepreneurship, government regulation, welfare measures and village tradition (Theodora, 2010). In currently, government in Brunei also has encouraged more foreign companies to invest in Brunei. Government of Brunei has makes some special offer to new businesses. If new businesses that are meet certain criteria quality for exemption of tax on profits for up to five years. (Travel Dojo, n.d.). In 2008, Coca-Cola saw growth in its licensing segment in Atlanta. For Brunei also will. I will suggest licensing is one of the entry modes into Brunei. In Coca-Cola Company has two licensing, there are in and out. Licensing in is a technology available to provides matters and improve their product, while licensing out is to provide other product out of non-alcoholic beverages (Frank, 2008). Bargaining power of Suppliers Supplier power is a mirror image of the buyer power. It more concentrated and controlled the supply, the more power it wields against the market. Firstly need to understand what the relationship of buyer to seller. This is very important between buyers to sellers. If there are relatively few suppliers compared to buyers since it will give them a lot of save cost and form of supply. Bargaining power of supplier plays important role for soft drink industry, Coca-Cola Company. They need ingredients from supplier to produce non-alcoholic beverages and bottles. Besides that, Coca-Cola Company can plan on switching cost. If in Brunei, Coca-Cola may attract more new customers. It may have new flavor in Brunei to attract consumers who stay in Brunei. This is because, different country may have different cultural with different flavor. Bargaining power of Customers Bargaining power is the ability to influence the setting price (Swathen, 2010). Scale and volume are important in this transaction. When Brunei has Coca-Cola Company, customers can buy coca-cola in bulk more cheaply than import and so has massive advantages. In Brunei, Coca-Cola Company may able to provide a very good deal if it is providing many places for many local authorities. In Brunei is a potential for the buyer to become a provider. This is because brand Coca-Cola is a famous brand. Simply say this technically known as backwards integration. In this case of Coca-Cola might set up their own selling network. In Brunei may be has loyalty consumers, Coca-Cola Company not need to waste a lot money in advertising to promote Coca-Cola. Selling of Coca-Cola will be increase. Coca-Cola Company just concentrate on their role of quality and service. Threat of New Entrants Simply to explain threat of new entrants is a function of both barriers to entry and reaction from existing competitors (Swathen, 2010). Besides that, power is one of the affected by ability of people to enter Brunei. In contrast, entry barriers exist whenever it is difficult or not economically feasible for an outsider to replicate the incumbents position (Porter, 1980b; Sanderson, 1998). Capital requirement is one the entry barriers. The capital cost of getting established in an industry can be so large as to discourage all but the largest companies. Following by switching costs, it refer to the one-time costs that buyers of the industrys output incur if they switch from one companys product to anothers. To overcome the switching cost barrier, new entrants may have to offer buyers a bigger price cut or extra quality or service. All this can mean lower profits margins for new entrants. But in Brunei, government has a special offer to new business, taxes are faced by them will be reduce. Threat of Substitutes Definition of threat of substitutes is the availability of a product that the consumer can purchase instead of the industrys product, such as the price of aluminum beverages cans is constrained by the price of glass bottles, steel cans and plastic containers. In todays society, beverages are essential for Mc Donald, restaurants and so on. In the soft drink industry the big providers are very similar and the cost of switching very small include for the contract, so that, Coca- Cola need to plan the cost of switching to substitute, such as Coca-Cola can try in Brunei to change another product to became more choice for consumers. Quality must maintain to become a substitute better, whether in new country to development. Competitive Rivalry Competitive rivalry is to help determine the extent to which the value created by an industry will be dissipated through head-to-head competition. In Brunei just has seldom soft drink industry. So that, jus t low costs to handle competitors to improve usage rates. But in Brunei will be slow to growth up in the market. Conclusion As a conclusion, an international business needs have prepare different report, cause it can make comparison with different country with another country. PEST, Porters 5 Analysis, and Adsoff Product/Market Matrix are play important to a business. 7.0 References List Anonymous, n.d., The Coca-Cola Company: Companies Histories, [Online] Available at: [Accessed 1 November 2010] Anonymous, n.d., History of Coca- Cola: The fathers of the Coca-Cola Company, [Online] Available at: http://www.angelfire.com/ca3/ETclanSETH114/cokehistory.html Accessed at: 1 November 2010 Anonymous, n.d., Coca-Cola History: The Coca-Cola Company has the worlds leading trademark with regards to softdrink sales, [Online] Available at: [Accessed 1 November 2010] Anonymous, 2010. Lemongrass as a Insect Repellent

Homemade Lemongrass Insect Repellent In heaven you won't hear the mosquitoes ~Finnish proverb Similar to citronella oil as a natural insect repellent, fresh lemongrass also provides added antibacterial and anti-fungal properties to your homemade insect repellent. Here is a quick and easy recipe for making your own insect repellent at home. Ingredients 10-12 lemongrass stalks Approx. 15 citronella leaves 4 tsp whole cloves 14oz sunflower oil (other oils you have on-hand will work OK too)Wash the lemongrass and citronella leaves. Lightly chop the lemongrass and citronella. Place chopped items in a blender with the cloves and blend. Pour the blended mix along with the sunflower oil into a heatproof bowl or a pan (a double boiler is what we're setting up next) and mix until all ingredients are well blended. Place the bowl or pan over a pan of boiling water and cover tightly. Let boil for an hour, and then cool. Strain the cooled mixture through a fine sieve or similar tool/material.Pour the strained mixture into a pump spray bottle. To Use Shake well and spray liberally over all exposed skin areas. Avoid the eyes. Always reapply after washing. If any irritation occurs wash off immediately and discontinue use. This insect repellent will keep for about a year if stored in a cool and dry location. Some people grow their own lemongrass from stalks purchased at the market, and if you can do this all the better for you. Maybe you can make some extra batches of the repellent and share with your friends and neighbors.Other uses for lemongrass include herbal tea made from an infusion of the chopped herb soaked in boiling water and then strained. Used in this method lemongrass is good for helping reduce fevers, stomach cramps, and as a general digestive aid. Although this recipe does not call for either lemongrass or citronella oils please note that neither oil should be used directly on the skin; they should always be diluted. This is just one variation of a homemade insect repellent. Please feel free to share your own recipes.
